Week 10/18 - The t-shirt is all mine!!!

Was in Ballycotton again last night with my sights set on a t-shirt issued to the top 15 lady finishers for the Summer Series of 5-milers.

Having chips for lunch wasn't a great idea but I tried to stay focused on my posture and take advantage of the downhills. In the end I managed a time of 36:23, and that combined with a couple of 'no shows' on the night meant that I worked my way into the top 15 (awaiting official results).
Just need to work out how to shrink it in the dryer now...

Psyching myself up for 14 miles training run tomorrow. It will be the usual circuit of the Straight Road - Bishopstown - Ballincollig with the addition of the Mardyke and back to Victoria Cross. On track for 31 miles this week...

  1. 13th overall - great achievement in your first year. By my calculations you were also 3rd in the F35 category. I see that it's top 50 for the boys for a t-shirt - that's one of a number of goals I must set for 2010. I note that 50th man home last night was in 30:38 so there's my target for the four races! 30:00 for 5 mile races is far too optimistic for me for 2010 but is certainly my aim for 2011 (when I turn the big 40 also). Well done again.

  2. My brother-in-law told me last night that none of the races in the ballycotton series had ever broken 400 entries before this year, and now in 2009 all four broke 400 with last night breaking 500. What do you put this down to? My guess is that it's recession related as people have far less work and more time on their hands. Who knows?
