Last night I was going well until about the 3 mile mark and then my right leg started to hurt - usual problem of knee feeling hot and then pain moving up and down the leg. Pushed on but then my mind started asking why not walk for a while, or just do a shorter run tonight or take the rest of the night off and finish right now... Struggled on, trying to think positive. It worked but I plodded home feeling completely frustrated and was in bed by nine, totally fed up.
Going to relax today and face the 16-miler in the morning...

For what it's worth, the reason most runners DON'T run marathons is that the training takes up so much time. You can certainly train succesfully for 5 milers on a smaller "time budget". After Dublin I'll seriously consider (and I already think I know that the answer will be in the negative)whether it's worth investing all the training time in marathons. I'm afraid there's no getting away from it but for the next c.5 weeks you can only have time for two of the following three:- socialising, training and "me" time. You must pick two!!!
ReplyDeleteOn a postive note though, there are only really 4 to 5 weeks more to worry about, the last 2 to 3 will be the taper and you'll be training less and less. Look at it this way - September is where you need to put it in, I guarantee you October will feel like a doddle, by Sunday 04th October we'll be over the worst of it. I guarantee you that you will post a great time in Dingle, you'll be well up the field, all the training so far will make this happen, you'll feel a lot more motivated after that than you did last night! Keep up the great work, IT WILL BE WORTH IT.
